Mt. Hopkins Sunset

Mount Hopkins, the home of the MMT, catches the last rays of sunlight. The cube shaped observatory building can be seen at the peak of the mountain. Canon 20D - 1/160th, 108mm @ f/10, ISO 800

Is this the view from your house? It looks like its from a bit farther west than I was thinking it should be. The ridge north of the MMT is where the dorm is up there and, though it's been a long time since I've been up there, I thought that ridge went straight north. Nice sunset pic - was that tonight? I saw some similar lighting over the south ridge while I watched the sunset tonight, hoping to get a really nice shnow on the cirrus clouds in the west, but they never lit up like I was expecting - I think the band of clouds farther west blocked the sunlight from them....

It's not exactly from my house, but on a rise just a few hundred meters to the west... And yes, it was from tonight. I was also expecting the clouds to the west to light up a bit more than they did too, but the Santa Ritas did look good. I think the best show this evening were the clouds over the Rincons, but I wasn't positioned to take advantage of that.

There was also a nice shadow pyramid to the east of Tucson, but I was running late to get the sunset, so I didn't stop to take pictures that way. The sunset was ok, but not what I was hoping for. But I did get a nice sequence tonight with the zodiacal light, though not as good as it might have been because of the clouds that came in partway through - I let the camera run through it all and it cleared later and ends with the Plieades & Taurus at the top of the frame.
